Glengarry Highland GamesThe Manchester Pipe Band is headed to the North American Pipe Band Championships, being held Saturday August 2nd at the Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville, Ontario.

This will be the first time the band has traveled to the event, the largest Scottish Festival in North America, since 2009. MPB will be competing in a field of 11 other bands in the Grade 3 MSR event, playing their new MSR, comprised of the tunes Donald MacLean’s Farewell to Oban, Captain Colin Campbell, and The Rejected Suitor.

Of special note for the band on this trip is the presence of two guest-players joining the band for the contest, Bryan Sutton and Patrick McLaurin, of Lubbock, TX.  Bryan is an alumni of the band, having played under P/M Mike MacNintch in the late 90’s and early 00’s. Patrick is an accomplished piper in Texas, and will be joining the band for the first time. Both pipers are undertaking the challenge of rehearsing with the full band in just the week before the contest.

The public is invited to hear the band in an open rehearsal on Thursday evening at 8:30 at the Lutz Children’s Museum in Manchester CT at 8:30PM. Please stop by, welcome Bryan and Patrick to the band, and wish us luck in Maxville!
